What an annual physical covers

A physical typically includes a review of symptoms, medications, family history, and age-appropriate preventive screening. The clinician can examine you, answer questions, and arrange follow-up for abnormal findings.

What is covered without cost sharing depends on your plan, eligibility, network, coding, and whether services are billed as preventive or diagnostic. $0 is not guaranteed.

What Function Health offers

As of July 20, 2026, Function Health's first-party scan page listed a base whole-body MRI at $999 list price or $899 member price and noted it excludes the chest, lungs, heart, arms, legs, esophagus, small intestine, and colon. Prices and protocols should be refreshed before purchase.

The service also includes broad laboratory testing. It is positioned as a way to track markers over time rather than as a substitute for clinician-directed care.

Coverage differences

An annual physical and indicated preventive services are often $0 when eligibility and network conditions are met, though coverage should be verified. Function Health is generally self-pay and does not bill insurance for its membership or scans.

For people with Medicare, the Annual Wellness Visit develops or updates a personalized prevention plan and is generally covered once every 12 months when assignment is accepted. A routine physical exam is not the same thing and is not covered. Always verify coverage with your plan before scheduling.

What this does not mean

Function Health is not an all-clear exam and does not replace age-based cancer screening such as colorectal screening or lung LDCT when you are eligible. A normal whole-body MRI does not mean you can skip recommended screenings. The ACR states that evidence is insufficient to recommend whole-body MRI for asymptomatic people without risk factors or family history and warns about incidental findings, follow-up testing, and expense.
